Family Assistance Center (FAC)

Brief Overview

The Family Assistance Center should be established as soon as possible after a mass fatalities incident. The purpose of the Family Assistance Center is to provide a safe and private place for survivors and families to grieve and/or await information regarding their loved ones. It is the location where representatives of the Medical Examiner's Office and other governmental entities will communicate with family members who have come to the vicinity of the Disaster Site. Progress of the recovery and investigation will be reported, identifying information will be collected from family members, death notifications will be delivered, and personal effects may be identified through photographs.

The Family Assistance Center includes several specific areas operating cooperatively to assist families affected by the disaster:
