The mission of the International Mass Fatalities Center is "To help communities, businesses, industries, government, and disaster response agencies prepare for, respond to, and recover from a mass fatalities incident." The emphasis in this statement is on three words – prepare, respond, recover – a complete cycle of events that distinguishes IMFC from any other organization dealing with disasters and the significant loss of life. The International Mass Fatalities Center provides resources to better equip a community to independently manage a mass fatalities response from onset through recovery by offering a multifaceted, comprehensive, sustainable training and support program. We believe that our programs avoid the “bungee” approach to preparedness. The “bungee” approach occurs when a community and responders receive a one-shot infusion of information without ongoing follow up to IMFC is the only organization nationwide that offers a complete and comprehensive mass fatalities incident management program.
