Peter R. Teahen Deploys to Sri Lanka

Cedar Rapids: Thursday, January 13, 2005 - Peter R. Teahen, local funeral director and President of the International Mass Fatalities Center, will deploy for two weeks to Sri Lanka. He deploys with Green Cross, a non-profit organization with a worldwide membership of trauma specialists who provide information, education, consultation and treatment for traumatized individuals or communities affected by disaster. The deployment fulfills a request from the government of Sri Lanka.

Peter will lead an international response team of traumatologist from several countries.  His primary responsibilities will be to manage the response, work with local Sri Lankan officials in the development and implementation of a trauma counseling intervention training program, and to provide hands-on training.

The response team will provide training to personnel responsible for managing cricket stadiums throughout Sri Lanka that have been designated as short- and long-term housing facilities for up to 2,000 refugees at each site.

Peter is tentatively scheduled to deploy on January 19.

The International Mass Fatalities Center provides training and support to help communities, businesses, industries, government and disaster response agencies prepare for, respond to and recover from a mass fatalities incident.
